John Faso Runs for Governor

Former Assemblyman John Faso has won the Republican and Conservative Party nominations to be the next Governor of New York. He is running on a platform of cutting taxes to make New York more affordable - particularly in upstate New York.
Mr. Faso knows tax cuts are not enough without also curbing wasteful spending in New York. No one else has Mr. Faso's qualifications to restore fiscal stability and prosperity to New York.
Currently, he is an attorney. As the 2002

Republican / Independence / Conservative candidate for Controller, Mr. Faso ran an aggressive campaign that resulted in a narrow loss.
He gave up his position as Assembly Minority Leader to run for that office. In the Assembly, he reliably fought for sound fiscal policies such as banning backdoor borrowing by state authorities without legislative approval.
He rose to be Minority Leader based in part on his success in passing legislation to create charter schools. He was always an outspoken opponent of wasteful spending and tax increases.
In 1994, Governor-Elect Pataki called upon John Faso to chair his budget transition team. John Faso helped craft one of the most fiscally sound budgets New York had seen in decades.
Mr. Faso earned his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1979, working full-time and going to law school at night. He graduated from State

University of New York at Brockport and from the prestigious Archbishop Molloy High School in Queens.
John Faso grew up on Long Island. Currently, he lives in the Columbia County Village of Kinderhook with his wife of 25 years Mary Frances, and their two children Nicholas and Margaret.
