John Carlino is running his New York City Council campaign out of The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group office. He is the Republican and Independence Party candidate for City Council in the second district.
     The second district includes Greamercy Park and much of Manhattan's Lower East Side. It is an open seat, and this year the Republican Party has its best chance to take this seat.
     Consistent with the vision of The TR/Gramercy Park Republican Group, John will fight to keep New Yorkers safe

from criminals and terrorsits, raise the educational results in New York City's public schools, improve access to fair housing and development, and attract businesses and investment in the community.
     John is a native New Yorker. After graduating from St. John's University, he worked in the business community for several years.
     Then he became a producer of documentary films for Moxie Films, which is located within the second district. Additionally, John has fought to save the Clemente Soto Valez Cultural Community Center.
     Through his efforts with Community Board 3 and other city agencies, John has made this center a vital resource for emerging artists. He intends to use his experiences in community activism to benefit everyone in his district.
     Looking at the problems in the current City Council, John notes, "The original idea of the American political system was to take what citizens have learned and experienced in the

private sector, whether that be in business or the arts, and apply that to public service. Not to make politics a career from the get go.
     "A person needs perspective and knowledge of the real world to empathize with everyday people. And in the narrow world of a career politician, one can not achieve that perspective."
